I havn't had a cellphone for years. Reason being, I found them more of a ball & chain then a true asset to my life. Example: I would pay over $69.00 a month, but would never use it often. My past call center days make me fickle, & even to this day can't stand being on the phone. When you talk with people over the phone, I spend time trying to rush them off it. It's that bad call center training that made me hate the phone. However with smart phones out, I've been really considering the Nexus One. I spend more time sending messages online amongst family & friends this way. I guess it's the sense of control I get that when I am ready to talk to you, I'll log in. If not, I can just turn you off.

So I was looking at the T-Mobile plans & not surprising the plans in relation to web & text were so over priced, that it cost more than my FIOS Internet at home at $55.00. The cost for the plan I reviewed was $79.00, & with uncertainty I would consider this purchase as a "let's try & see" approach.I either have to pay the full price for the phone to avoid the contract, or eat 2 years of useless time to have an electronic brick to carry with me.

Though the advantages of having a smart phone does reduce the amount of baggage I need to lug around, & the option to roam freely on the web when ever I need it. I feel the limitations phones provide vs. the cost monthly really doesn't add up.

Though we still spend more for broadband than every country out there, we likely spend more on cellphone use for a service that doesn't  compare. I get a device that can do less, with broadband that can do less, but pay more! That is my thinking about this. I also look at the devices limits compared to a netbook. I can buy a netbook for $340.00, but this Nexus One costs just for the phone itself 529.00! I can get Skype for 29.00 a month & spend less. Of coarse I would be wifi bound.. but damn! It's a hell a lot cheaper!

I guess I looking for a mid range price point before I'd commit to these services, and comparing apples to oranges. But the web is the web & these tiny gadget prices though nifty, don't at this moment reach my needs.
